Manjappai Awareness Programme (13th November 2025)

The Crescent Student Council, in collaboration with the Thulir Foundation Trust and the Office of Student Affairs, organized the “Manjappai Awareness Programme” at the CIIC Seminar Hall, inspired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Meendum Manjappai initiative. The event aimed to revive the traditional yellow cloth bag as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics, promoting environmental consciousness among students.

The programme commenced with a soulful Qiraath followed by the Tamizh Thaayi Vaazhthu, creating an atmosphere of tradition, pride and responsibility. Coordinated by Prasanna Reddy and Rasheeqa Sheriff, the event was effectively anchored by student leaders from the Student Council and Tamil Mandram.

Senior administrators—including Dr. N. Thajuddin (Pro Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Dr. T. Murugesan (Vice-Chancellor) and Dr. N. Raja Hussain (Registrar)—presided over the event, reiterating Crescent’s commitment to sustainability. Representing the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission, Dr. C. Poornachandhra delivered a powerful address on climate resilience and environmental strategies for the future.

Notable insights were shared by Tmt. K. Vasanthakumari, Mayor, and Mr. Selvakkumar P, Founder of Thulir Foundation, highlighting that the manjappai is not merely a traditional accessory but a symbol of mindful and responsible living. Students also showcased their creativity through videography and essay competitions celebrating sustainability.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Karthikeyen Ramalingam (Dean of Student Affairs), Dr. K. Indra Gandhi (Deputy Dean) and Faculty Coordinators: Dr. M.A. Saleem Ahmed, Mrs. S. Saba, and Mrs. Banupriya G.

In an important community outreach initiative, a Women Self-Empowerment Group was engaged to stitch eco-friendly bags for the event, for which they were honored with an institutional cheque in recognition of their contribution.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge toward environmental stewardship and sustainable campus practices.
